Republican McCormick tries to knock Bob Casey’s long public service

PA Capital-Star: Republican McCormick says he will limit himself to only 12 years in US Senate – desperately trying to knock Sen. Bob Casey’s long service.

John Cole of the Pennsylvania Capital-Star details Republican David McCormick’s campaign against senior Senator Bob Casey (D-PA).  (Link)  Sen. Casey is in his third term as Senator from Pennsylvania.

Republicans have tried similar tactics over the years. As John details, in the 2018 election, Lou Barletta tried a similar tact in his campaign to defeat Bob Casey. Barletta lost to Casey by 13 percentage points

Democratic strategist Brit Crampsie is quoted as saying “Term limits already exist. They are called elections.” Republicans have no problems with long service when it comes to Republicans like Mitch McConnell (first elected to the Senate in 1980) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) who broke his pledge to serve only two terms.

This is McCormick’s second attempt to win one of Pennsylvania’s US Senate seats: Two years ago, McCormick lost the GOP primary to Mehmet Oz by less than 1,000 votes.

Polls continue to show Sen. Casey with a lead over McCormick. However, Casey has a history of outperforming other Democrats in Pennsylvania winning by at least 9 percentage points in his three bids for U.S. Senate. The Cook Political Report, a national ratings outlet, rates the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania as leans Democratic.
