Axios looks at Kensington as Mayor Parker begins clean-up efforts

Axios Philadelphia examines the Kensington neighborhood after Mayor Parker’s attempt to clear a drug market three weeks ago.

Kensington has been called the epicenter of the region's opioid crisis. The conclusion: Kensington is slowly changing, but long-term challenges remain.

The Mayor has pledged a multi-phase plan to shut down deeply entrenched open-air drug markets and address poverty and disinvestment. Meanwhile, Parker has vowed to ramp up police operations targeting drug dealers and individuals openly injecting drugs.

Improving public safety and ending the open-air drug markets in Kensington are among the mayor's top priorities. The Mayor released a 53-page report laying out enforcement strategies, tech upgrades, and program changes for the police department.
